Our team continues to make progress in every phase of work, pushing toward completion of the project by Spring of 2021. We still expect to host our first events in the spring of 2021 for school sports and then align with the Olympic Trials in the summer of 2021. What have we been up to? What can you do to help?
We have been busy finalizing drawings & engineering, completing due diligence, securing our final quote from Beynon Sports, gathering donations and completing grant applications. AND this has all been happening despite COVID-19! It has saddened us to not have been able to hold community fundraising events or DRAC presentations around Oregon.
While we have been quietly hard at work, we need you! We would love for you to come visit and see the exciting progress we’ve made. If you have not been to Maupin, it is worth the 2 hour drive to visit. The Deschutes River Athletic Complex will be the centerpiece of this town that brings in over 100,000 visitors through the spring and summer each year. Just two hours, or less, from Portland, Maupin boasts 320 days of sunshine a year. We are creating a world-class track and event venue for the South Wasco County community, its student-athletes, and Oregon residents to enjoy throughout the year.
We are raising $1.6 million dollars to complete the project and already have 40% in hand through current donations and in-kind work to date. We have gained support from the local community, Redside alumni, visitors and non resident homeowners that love the opportunity to help make this a reality. We currently have received some foundational grants from individuals through Oregon Community Foundation and Cycle Oregon. We are hopeful in our successful applications to the Ford Family Foundation and the Maybelle Clark MacDonald Fund.
We could not be where we are today without the work from the Oregon National Guard! They spent over a week in Maupin grading the footprint for the new complex with donated fill from local residents, the Randy Warnock Family.
